Amazon selects Wembley Park for location of next till-free grocery store in London, and more sites are planned

Tech giant Amazon is to open a ‘till-free’ grocery shop close to Wembley stadium, just weeks after it welcomed customers to its first London venue.

Amazon Fresh on Wembley Boulevard will open on March 16, selling new private food brand ‘by Amazon’, which includes meat, fish, dairy, fruit and veg, and bakery products.

Customers use the Amazon app to enter and can put their phone away and shop for what they need like normal, bagging items as they go. They then walk away without using a till, and are automatically billed as they leave.

The online retail giant’s first physical shop and first grocery store outside of the US was launched in Ealing earlier this month.

Matt Birch, director of Amazon Fresh stores UK said:“Since opening our first Amazon Fresh store in Ealing, we’ve heard from our customers how much they enjoy the tasty food from our new ‘by Amazon’ range and the effortless shopping experience.”

He added: “The [Welmbley Park] store features our Just Walk Out technology, which enables customers to take what they want and just walk out, making shopping for essential grocery items even more convenient.”

The company is looking to open more venues in greater London in the future.

Birch recently said: “We hope to open a few more in London in areas like Ealing and believe it will work in residential areas and city centres.”
