The beloved boozer, which is a bastion of the heavy music scene in north London, tweeted to say it was “beyond thrilled and grateful” to have met its goal, barely two weeks before its March 31 deadline.

The tweet continued: “Can’t freaking wait to welcome you all back! Black Heart, SAVED!”

More than 4,000 supporters contributed the crowdfunder, which involved the auction of autographed merch from Iron Maiden and KISS, two tickets to watch Arsenal play and a coveted “black card”, offering a 20 per cent discount at the bar and free gig entry at the venue for a year once it reopens.

In January, the Black Heart joined the Music Venue Trust’s “red list” of gig spots in imminent danger of permanent closure. Many of them are still aiming to reach their crowdfunding targets, with eight in London: Windmill Brixton, Egg London, The Lexington, The Post Bar, The Waiting Room, Alchemy, Spiritual Bar and The Fiddlers Elbow.
